First Aid Week

This week we will be learning about First Aid. I am having my middle daughter put a First Aid Kit together. She is reading a few books on the subject and I am planning mock injuries for her to take care of. September 22, 1920 was the anniversary of the invention of the Band-Aid.

I am also planning a Family Health Kit in the future. To go along with keeping healthy with this winters flu seasons and colds.

Here is a good site to check out, we will be getting our supply list from there to put together our First Aid kit.

Our Woodworking Project

The look on her face (although blurry) says it all.

She just loves going to these woodworking classes. My sister and her daughter (right) came with us this time. The project was a bean bag toss game, it worked out really good that we now have two and the girls can play across from one another. Next month they are gonna be making firehouse piggy banks. I am going to incorporate the whole fire safety stuff that week for school.

Grandma came along too.

Just a reminder that this Saturday at the Home Depot they are having a free woodworking class for this month. Its called the Kids Workshop and they host them once a month. We started last month (check us out here) and the girls really liked it. I believe you can also purchase the kits and do them at home. It is free for the kit if you go there. They are very neat.

Nature Center

We visited our local Nature Center (which I never new existed....I don't get out much do I....lol) The girls really enjoy it. I did also....he he. We will be coming here more often and adding it to our nature learning. This place had so much information that we are all looking forward to going back. I also noticed that they had several hiking trails that look nice to explore. Wow all this in my own neighborhood and I didn't even know it. I am sure glad we found it. I will have to search more information for my area, you never know what jems are right outside your front door.

I love it...This one prefers the table at least....lol.Art class, out by our garden, and I even sat down in the grass and painted the sunflowers too. We all really enjoyed the outdoors that day.Now look at these great smiles, and the art work is very beautiful too.

We set up on the deck to do some star gazing. The mosquitoes are bad here so I was happy to have these really neat mosquito nets. They fit perfect over our air mattresses. (comfort always he he) The girls ate popcorn and waited patiently for dark. (about 45 mins.) When the sun set big sister and myself crawled in to enjoy the night sky, and we were all bug free. We all had a fun time, I could have fallen asleep out in the cool fresh air. Our astronomy was fun but we realized that there was a full moon and that made it very bright out and we couldn't see the night sky very well. We will be doing this again soon when the moon is not so bright. We did enjoy the seeing the big dipper.

I have three towers of drawers, one for each girl and the middle one is mine. They each have a drawer with all the school supplies. (crayons, pencils, markers, etc.) In the other drawers they have their books and notebooks and whatever is needed for each class per drawer. This has made it so much easier to keep us all organized. My youngest has her drawers post-it noted with letters on each drawer and I ask her to get her stuff from a certain letter. Making it another fun way to learn her letters and or numbers or whatever I post on her drawers. I may change them out every few weeks or so. They both really like having them and that's always a bonus for me.I have always covered my table with plastic and it is so fun to put different things under it seasonal or whatever we may be studying and they won't get wrecked. I liked the crayon box one for my youngest so we can practice colors. I also have the ABC's so she has them right by her all the time. The frog was cute and I just had to get that one for my other daughter. The spot behind the word board is mine with my laptop. Our first day of school.

And just if you were wondering......yes that is my treadmill in the corner......lol.

I do need to use that thing more often.

4th Grade Kindergarten

My youngest is just so excited to be doing her own school. I am excited also but feeling a bit nervous on how to juggle my time with both girls homeschooling this year. This week we are starting school and going through our day to see how it all works out and do a bit of tweaking on our time schedule. I would like to continue with our "tea on Tuesdays" and I will try to get that started soon. After I work out all the bumps. :)

We had so much fun doing our woodworking project at the Home Depot today. The girls received the message center, an apron, and a pin to put on their apron. It was all for FREE. Yea all that including the project for free. That really works for our budget. They have the kids workshops once a month, we are excited to go again next month. Oh ....check out the pic with my youngest and the power tool....she was so excited that she didn't want to stop drilling....to cute. We were homeschooling and loving it.

I am trying to get it all together for this year as I will be adding my youngest as a Kindergartner. She is so excited to home school. I am starting to get excited also after seeing all the school supplies in the stores. I use to dread the thought of school supplies and new clothes and all that goes with starting school but since I home school, this will be our 4th year, I actually look forward to the new school supplies and getting started. I will post our curriculum soon.
I wanted to tell everyone about the kids workshop project on Aug. 1st at the Home Depot. A friend of mine goes and I am going to try it out this time. They are making a really cute and practical message center. I think the girls will really have fun. Plus its woodworking.....he he. Way to be a home school mom, ya think....lol.

My oldest daughter now 16 .....and so beautiful.

Sun Stars

We made a few sun stars to help bring in spring.

She made a candle jar while we made the stars, it turned out very cute.

Today has been a beautiful day and the weather is suppose to be even better tomorrow. We have been outside enjoying it all day. I also washed the windows and wow is it nice and bright in the house now. Spring has sprung here for me, we have seen our first robin last week and today we spotted a killdeer. I have been hanging sheets out on the line all day hoping to help with the flu bug going through the family. I have also aired the house out and fumigated with lysol spray.

HAPPY GROUNDHOG DAY

Today we watched a groundhog episode on Franklin. We also colored and crafted the groundhog and his shadow above. We heard on the news that "PHIL" has seen his shadow and that means another six weeks of winter. That means in mid March it will be all over???? I hope!! The weather looks like it will be in the 40's this weekend, compared to 0's and below freezing for the last month. I am looking forward to warmer weather and I am loving the sunshine too.

Well I am gonna grab the girls, cuddle on the couch, and read.....How Groundhog's Garden Grew.

I wanted to try a few audio books for the girls. What a hit! They were quiet all day long and mom was very happy.... .lol....When the mommy needs some peace and quiet just put in a book on tape or CD. It was really cute seeing my four year old shuffle through the pages and let out a few squeals of joy at the silly parts in the story. I will be trying this again.....he he. Now I am off to get a few things done.

This story was about two hours long, she couldn't wait to get the second CD in.

Today seemed to start out great with schooling but after seeing the sun so bright out we just had to go out in it. We needed a good dose of Vitamin D from the sun. The days have been very cloudy and foggy for the past week here and I just needed to get out for some fresh air. I forgot the camera but we went sledding and just had fun playing in the snow. Oh yea I also broke the zipper on my youngest's new winter coat, and of course I can't find the receipt. ugh!!
So today we didn't get much work done but I think we all feel a little healthier. he he

Tea On Tuesday

We are having our Tea on Tuesday again.....yea its been awhile. The book that I read was one of our history study book reads. We are learning about nomads and early civilization. I skipped through the book as we read, shhh don't tell the girls, it was very long but we all got the point of the story. After I was done we did a quick narration about the story, more schooling he he, and they did very well. We are doing Story of the World (volume 1 Ancient Times) for history along with the activity book that goes with it.
